EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

An important part of ATG’s mission has always been to reflect the diversity of our community. We are proud of our work that has highlighted the talents of BIPOC artists such as our recent productions of Tell Them I’m Still Young, A Good Farmer and Till.  However, we must acknowledge that for all our prior efforts and good will, for all our sincere intentions, it is not nearly enough.  We need to do more.

First, let us state unequivocally that ATG rejects all forms of racism and discrimination, either institutionalized or individually practiced, intentional or negligent, blatant or unconscious.  And while our actions and procedures were never knowingly intended to do so, we accept responsibility for our part in contributing to any racist practices.

We know we need to do things differently in order to better serve all members of the community not only for BIPOC members, but for every member of a marginalized group.  And we know it will take time, as we continue to listen, learn (and in some cases unlearn) so we can be a better, more inclusive theater company that more accurately reflects all the members of our community.  We will likely make some missteps along the way, and we promise to be attentive when such mistakes are pointed out to us.  We promise we will listen. Even when it is painful. Even when it is difficult.

We want to be part of the change, and we invite our constituencies, artists and audiences alike, to be part of the process with us.
